ECE R81 homologation

ECE R81 homologation and E9 marking

The current DopeMirrors model carries E9 marking according to ECE R81. For an adventure rider, the practical point is simple: the mirror was developed not only as an off road accessory, but also as a road mirror in an approved configuration for use in Europe.

What ECE R81 relates to

ECE R81 is the regulation used for rear view mirrors on two wheeled vehicles within the relevant approval system. The E9 marking identifies the approval authority country code associated with the product approval. The marking on the product should be considered together with the approved product configuration.

Why approval matters for adventure riders

Many adventure motorcycles spend the same trip on motorways, local roads, gravel and trails. A mirror that is useful off road but unsuitable for required road equipment creates a compromise. DopeMirrors are designed to combine folding adjustment with the current ECE R81 approved configuration.

Approval does not mean every modification is automatically covered

Homologation applies to the approved product. It should not be automatically extended to future products, modified components or combinations that were not part of that configuration. Local registration, inspection or vehicle rules can also differ, so riders with a specific legal requirement should check the applicable rules in their country.
